About Us

My Spare Seat is an environmentally conscious team committed to helping people car pool.

If there’s a spare seat why not fill it!

Our aim is to reduce 1,000,000 tones of CO2 each year. With your help and something as simple as using that spare seat we can have a huge effect on our sustainability and future of this world.

Environment

Here are some compelling facts about the impact cars have on the environment:

·         The pollution from cars is often greater than that from electricity and heating fuel uses, waste disposal, and other household activities.

·         In the North America, Cars and light trucks alone account for more fossil fuel CO2 (Greenhouse Gas) emissions than the total nationwide emission of all but three other countries in the world. Where is Australia heading?!

·         Improving fuel efficiency of cars and light trucks is one of the single biggest steps we can take to reduce global warming.

·         Automotive produce is almost 50% of air pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides, that help form ground level ozone.

How many extra cars are put on the road each year? It's probably reasonable to say that approximately 150,000 cars are currently produced worldwide each day. That’s a whopping 54,000,000 each year!!

How many emissions come out of each car on average a year? The average car emits about six tons of air pollution every single year.

People are becoming increasingly environmentally conscious in their everyday lives; here are some more tips on how to care for our environment:

  1. Only dispose of litter and rubbish in bins designed for that purpose. If you can't find a bin, take your rubbish with you.

  2. Fit AAA-rated shower heads. They use 7 litres a minute compared to 20 litres from an ordinary shower head. And don’t forget to keep the shower to 4 minutes!

  3. Commuting without polluting! Use public transportation, carpool, walk, or bike whenever possible to reduce air pollution and save on fuel costs.

  4. Add Vinegar to your cleaning. For cleaning floors and windows add a cup of vinegar to every 1 litre of warm water.

  5. Consider a solar hot water system. The saving from this can save as much greenhouse gas as a large car produces in a whole year and save you thousands of dollars in bills.

  6. Say NO to Plastic Bags. Take reusable bags for shopping instead.

  7. Use cold water when you can. Wash clothes in cold water.

  8. Only wash a full load in your dishwasher or washing machine. It uses about the same amount of energy and hot water as doing a half load.

  9. Don't leave outside lights on. Install a timer or motion sensor.

  10. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs. They use 80% less energy and last up to 8 times longer than conventional light bulbs.

  11. Solar lighting in your garden or driveway. It avoids electric cabling and costs nothing to run.

  12. Leave your appliances on standby. TV, stereo, microwave, computer and more, all on standby.
